HouseHack is an iPhone app that turns home-maintenance videos, links and photos you share into step-by-step guides, and reminds you when a job is due again. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
In short: we collect only what the app needs to work. We show no ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data. You can delete your account and its data at any time in Settings.
What we collect
- Your sign-in. If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an account identifier, an email address (which may be an Apple private relay address) and, if you choose to share it, your name. If you sign in with email, we store your email address and a password managed by our sign-in provider. Before you sign in, the app uses an anonymous account so your answers can be saved.
- A device ID. A random identifier the app creates and keeps in your iPhone's Keychain. It keeps your account signed in on one device at a time. It is not an advertising identifier.
- A push token, if you allow notifications, so we can send your reminders and "your guide is ready" messages. We also store your time zone and quiet hours so reminders arrive at a sensible time.
- The links and photos you import. The link to each video, pin or web page you share, and any screenshots or photos you add. Photos are deleted from our servers as soon as your guide is ready. If something goes wrong on our side, we keep them so you can try again, and delete them within 8 days at most.
- Your saved hacks and reminders. The guides you save, notes you write, the appliances and brands you tell us about, whether you own or rent, your reminder schedules, and the history of jobs you've marked done.
- Your onboarding answers, including how you heard about HouseHack, and which onboarding screens you've seen, so we can see where the setup is confusing.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription and which plan. Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card details.
- An optional reason if you choose to tell us why you're deleting your account. It is stored without any link to you.
How we use it
Only to run HouseHack: to turn what you share into a guide, to save your guides, to send your reminders, to keep your subscription working, to keep your account secure, and to understand and fix problems with the app. We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers, each only for the job described:
- Supabase — hosts our database, sign-in and file storage.
- OpenAI — reads the caption, transcript, page text or photo text of what you share and writes it up as steps. We send it only the content needed for that hack, never your name or email.
- OpenAI, when you ask about a hack — the question you type, together with that hack's saved title, steps and notes, is sent to OpenAI to answer it. Your questions and the answers are not stored by HouseHack; we keep only a count of how many you ask each day, to limit it.
- Supadata — fetches transcripts of public videos. It receives the link to the video.
- RevenueCat — tracks your subscription status with Apple, using an app user ID.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases and push notification delivery. Expo passes reminders on to Apple's push service.
To read a link you share, our servers also fetch it from the site or platform it is on (for example the video's public page).
What we don't do
- No ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites, and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
- This website (househack.app) uses cookieless analytics to count page visits. It sets no cookies and does not collect your name, email or any personal data.
- We never sell or rent your data.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while your account exists. Photos are deleted as soon as your guide is ready, or within 8 days at most if something goes wrong on our side. To delete your account, open Settings → Delete account in the app. This deletes your account, sign-in, saved hacks, reminders and history, and revokes HouseHack's Sign in with Apple access. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an Apple subscription: cancel it in your Apple ID settings.
A few things are not tied to you and stay after deletion: the record of which onboarding screens were viewed (with your account removed from it), an optional deletion reason, and the shared copy of steps extracted from a public link (so the same public video isn't processed twice).
Children
HouseHack is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing hello@househack.app. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
